Greenpeace-Russia has noted Perm City Administration for its contribution to waste recycling programme.

The environmental organization “Greenpeace-Russia” has noted Perm as a city where the administration promotes separate waste collection and waste recycling.

A map has been published that features the cities’ readiness to organize separate waste collection and waste recycling. Perm has entered the first group of the cities that have already organized the separate waste collection and waste recycling and where the City Administration recognizes this area of activity as important.

Perm is marked green, which means that the City Administration is not only ready to implement the latest methods of waste disposal but either has carried out pilot separate waste collection programmes or is designing regulations to encourage separate waste collection and waste recycling.

According to the Department of Housing, Utilities and Amenities, in 2010-2011 the pilot implementation of separate waste collection programme was carried out by Perm City Administration. It was aimed at assessing the willingness of the population to properly separate their household waste. One third of the population was reported to have agreed to sort their household waste.

“The Effective System Development for Solid Household Waste Disposal”, a long term special-purpose programme, has been adopted in Perm. The program provides subsidies for the city’s contracted separate waste collection companies.

Now there are 545 containers for separate waste collection, which is 51% of the total number of waste containers in the residential area. This number has increased since 2013 and 2014 when there were 108 and 337 containers for separate waste collection respectively.
